Foxconn Is Recruiting Thousands of Workers to Assemble 2019 iPhones

Foxconn is reportedly hiring thousands of employee to gear up for the upcoming iPhone launch. Apple is scheduled to launch new iPhones next month and typically the demand is at a peak in the first few months of launch.

According to a report by Economic Daily News, Foxconn is currently looking out to hire thousands of workers. Furthermore, it is also rumored that the company is paying a one-time bonus of 4,500 Chinese yuan to employees who will renew the contract.

The upcoming iPhones will be produced in Foxconn’s Shenzen factory. If the reports are to be believed, Apple will launch three new iPhones with 5.8-inch, 6.1-inch and 6.5-inch display, which is similar to last year’s lineup.
Our Take

Previously, Foxconn has been under scrutiny for its work conditions. Strangely enough, Foxconn had fired 50,000 contract workers citing low iPhone demand in March this year. The Foxconn worker’s salaries and benefits took a hit as the demands for iPhone slumped. Employees work overtime and earn more during the peak season, however, the peak season lasted for less than a month last year.

With the iPhone orders likely to pick up, we hope the employees are compensated fairly. As of now, things seem to look bright for workers as the company is offering a one time bonus alongside the usual wages. All said and done, Foxconn still believes that 2019 is a tough year and is looking for ways to cut its expenses.

The Pwn20wnd team is out with a new release for the stable version of Unc0ver v3.3.1 which brings about some massive improvements to the jailbreaking process. While the tool had received a similar update a few months ago, this update takes things to the next level in terms of speed.

As per the developers, jailbreaking an iPhone XS running iOS 12.1.2 using a previous version of Unc0ver used to take 6 seconds. With the latest release, that has now come down to just 2 seconds. The overall system performance and stability should also be better with the latest release of unc0ver. The team does note that in order to experience the speed improvements, one must jailbreak their iPhone or iPad using the latest release of Unc0ver at least once.

Below is the full change-log of the release:

Australian Regulators Sue Samsung over Misleading Water Resistance Ads for Galaxy Smartphones

Samsung has landed into trouble with the Australian authorities over Galaxy ads. The latest ads showed that Galaxy smartphones can be used while swimming. The Australian competition regulator has filed a lawsuit against Samsung and alleges that the ads were misleading.

“Samsung’s advertisements falsely and misleadingly represented Galaxy phones would be suitable for use in … all types of water, including in ocean water and swimming pools, and would not be affected by such exposure to water.”- Rod Sims, Chair of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.

Samsung may have to pay fine in the tune of millions if proven guilty. Recently the law has been changed to accommodate a maximum fine of 10 million Australian dollars for each violation. The regulators also added that Samsung boasted their phones are water resistant up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. On the contrary, they are being shown used in oceans and swimming pools.

Furthermore, according to the regulator, Samsung didn’t have “a reasonable basis” for claiming its phones were waterproof. Apparently, some Galaxy devices started facing an issue when used in water and Samsung refused to honor the warranties. To make matters worse Samsung has put a warning that reads “not advised for beach or pool use” on the new Galaxy S10 product page.
Our Take

Samsung Galaxy S10 comes with an IP68 rating. In other words, the Galaxy S10 can be taken to the pool but is not suitable for sea diving. It also means that the device can withstand some degree of dust and sand.

Moving on, the IP68 rating mentions fresh water and this is for a reason. The devices are tested in fresh water with no contaminants. However, the swimming pool and ocean is not fresh water and the devices might get damaged. Samsung’s latest ads fail to consider this limitation. Have you taken ever taken your waterproof phone for a swim? Let us know in the comments below.
